About Our Church
The purpose of the Martinsville Church of Christ is to glorify God by implementing the Great Commission of Matt. 28:18-20 by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to the unchurched in our community and the world at large, and assisting those who are saved to obey Christ’s command to “go into all the world” actively and harmoniously while maturing to Christ-likeness. It is the task of the body of believers that make up the Martinsville Church of Christ to minister to our community not only by upholding righteousness but by ministering to those in need.

Minister and Wife

I grew up in Blanchester until age 10 before moving to Lynchburg, where I’ve lived ever since. My wife and I began attending MCOC in the summer of 1983, and we have been blessed with two children and a grandson, Parker. I’ve had the privilege of serving as an elder since July 2022. By trade, I am a carpenter, and by heart, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Baptized at nine, I began attending Martinsville Church of Christ at 12, preached my first sermon at 16, and later led youth ministry with my wife, Debbie. I became a deacon, then an elder at 35, serving for 37 years while teaching, preaching, and participating in mission work. My career spanned newspaper advertising before transitioning to healthcare, where I spent 35 years in diagnostic imaging and cardiology services. Married for 52 years, Debbie and I have two daughters, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and I enjoy traveling and photographing God’s creation.

I grew up on a farm just south of Martinsville, while my wife, Diane, grew up just a half mile away. We both attended Martinsville Elementary, graduated from Wilmington High School, and I later earned my degree from The Ohio State University. After farming early in our marriage, I spent 35 years as a County Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency before retiring four years ago. We've lived in Wilmington for 19 years, have four children, 11 grandkids, and I've served as an elder at MCOC for most of the past 34 years—all because of a cute girl who first got me through the door.

We Believe
We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16), and we strive to have no creed but the Bible.

We believe that there is only one God (Deuteronomy 32:39) who is all-powerful (2 Chronicles 20:6), all-knowing (1 John 3:20), and is everywhere (Psalms 46:1).

We believe that God is love (1 John 4:16), and that he is both transcendent (1 Kings 8:27) and imminent (Psalms 73:23).

We believe that God created the world by his word (Genesis 1:1), and that the Word became flesh and dwelt among men in the form of Jesus (John 1:1, 14).

We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin (Matthew 1:23), lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), and died for the remission of our sins (1 John 1:7).

We believe that by the grace of God, Jesus' sacrifice is offered to us as a gift (Romans 3:24), that we receive through faith (Hebrews 11:6).

We believe that man is not justified by faith alone (James 2:24), but must respond by repenting and being baptized (Acts 2:38).

We believe that baptism is a burial in water that washes away our sins (Acts 22:16 & 1 Peter 3:21), that we rise to eternal life (Romans 6:4), and receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11).

We believe that God adds baptized believers to his church (Acts 2:41, 47), which is his body, and over which he is the head (Ephesians 5:23).

We believe that the church should meet weekly to remember Christ through communion (Acts 20:7), must seek the lost and offer them salvation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20), and do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10).

We believe that loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and loving neighbors as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39) is the underlying objective of our faith, doctrine, relationships, service, and behavior.
